When treated air isn't clean enough.

Most plant air just needs drying and filtering. Some applications need more — air with the oil removed to Class 0, air made sterile for medical use, or air conditioned to breathing-grade. These are different jobs with different standards. Here's how each one is reached, and the products that get you there.

Oil-free air

Removes: Oil — vapor and aerosol

When even an oil-free compressor isn't enough — ambient air carries hydrocarbons through, and downstream processes can't tolerate them. Two methods reach oil-free, and they're a genuine choice, not a duplicate: catalytic conversion breaks hydrocarbons down in the air stream (oil-free regardless of inlet load), while activated-carbon adsorption polishes oil onto a media bed. Class 0 is the food, pharma, electronics, and breathing-air target.

Sterile air

Removes: Microorganisms + sub-micron particles

The final sterile-grade stage of a medical breathing-air train — the housing that removes live bacteria and sub-micron particles after particulate, coalescing, and carbon have done their work. Built to be steam-sterilized in place on a maintenance schedule and validated to medical performance levels. This is the step that takes a clean industrial air stream to medical-grade under NFPA 99.

Breathing air

Removes: CO, moisture, particulate — to breathing-grade

Conditions plant compressed air to breathing-grade for supplied-air respirators — controlling carbon monoxide, moisture, oil, and particulate to the spec that governs air people actually breathe. The purity goal here isn't a process tolerance, it's worker safety, so the standard is a hard line, not a target.

Two ways to oil-free

Same goal, different mechanism — pick by the duty

Catalytic conversion

Heats the air and oxidizes hydrocarbons to CO₂ and water inside the stream. Removal doesn't depend on a saturating media bed, so it holds its level regardless of inlet oil load, humidity, or temperature — and runs long service intervals. The right call when oil-free must be guaranteed independent of what arrives.

Activated-carbon adsorption

Adsorbs oil vapor onto a carbon bed — the standard, lower-cost polish stage downstream of coalescing filtration. Performance falls as the bed loads, so it's sized and changed on a schedule. The right call for steady, well-treated inlet air where the duty is predictable.
